Evaluates mechanical aspects to ensure the product will meet life cycle requirements. This will include detail stress, vibration, modal, fatigue analysis of all designed components. Detailed involvement in all steps in the product development process/life cycle, from customer requirement, to design, to prototype manufacturing, to product qualification, to final product implementation and product launch. In depth involvement in all aspects of the test phase to validate design. Provides detailed aerodynamic analysis based on the CFD and experimental data. Writes detailed test plans, guide, supervise, instruct and support both lab technicians and junior engineers on all compressor testing activities. Provides documentation, both high level, and detailed documentation, for all projects and tasks throughout the development process. Supports all groups and all teams on all simulation requests and requirements to provide solutions to problems, new product designs, and current product improvements. Guides and directs designers to create prototype and production drawings. As required, be able to review, modify, and sign off on engineering and production drawings. Teaches and mentors junior engineers the aspects of centrifugal compressor design and development. Provides technical mentoring, direction and guidance to other engineers. Guides and mentors team members in simulation problems/methods/processes/best practices both in CFD and FEA. Plans and develops test programs for prototypes using Design of Experiments as needed for complex problems with many variables. Analyzes test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional, performance, and safety specifications. Requirements: Bachelor's degree (Technical, Scientific, Engineering) 7-9 years of related experience. Extensive knowledge of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis). Expertise in aerodynamics and thermodynamics. Ability to design entire aero flow path, both rotating and stationary, of centrifugal compressor without guidance or support. Requires in-depth knowledge of turbomachinery, specifically centrifugal compressors, both aero and mechanical. Solid fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles with focus on stress analysis, mechanics of materials, vibration, fatigue, and failure modes. Requires experience using commercial CFD and FEA codes. Preferably experience using the ANSYS simulation suite. Experience in product testing and data acquisition, with emphasis on compressor performance validation and compressor mapping. Experience in design and manufacturing of high performance centrifugal compressor impellers desired. Preferred Requirements Knowledge of principles and practices of HVAC engineering industry highly desired. Experience with inverse design methods will be a plus.
