Leading Automation Process Controls Company is experiencing continued growth and has a full-time Leadership position for a Control Systems Engineering (CSE) Manager available out of their Houston Office. The CSE Manager is a functional role directing the CSE team in the development and delivery of a variety of automation projects across multiple industries. These projects cover greenfield infrastructure, brownfield extensions or migrations, and site-based support associated with the automation and controls product line in the Systems business unit (BU) portfolio.

In addition to management activities, including performance management, the successful person in this role will be a leader in many areas, including continuous improvement, standards, and good engineering practices. The CSE Manager will also participate in the development of internal processes, methods, and tools, to support the quality delivery of each project.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide leadership and direction to the Control Systems Engineers.
Ensure team continuity while also developing and maintaining a positive team culture.
Provide continual reinforcing and developmental feedback and coaching in development areas.
Inspire and motivate, set clear standards, promote innovation and courage, compete to win, and create clarity for the team.
Provide performance reviews, career development planning, and compensation review for the Controls Engineering Team.
Perform employee recruiting for the direct team, and in support of the Department.
Perform onboarding duties for new hires, including company introduction and technical training.
Identify, develop, and ensure continuous buildup of skills, competencies, and capabilities of the team to support the Business Unit growth.
Assign projects / workload while balancing skills development, project priority and complexity, and team workload.
Effectively manage the engineering resources to deliver complex multiple projects on time and to budget.
Ensure quality of deliverables for projects and provide guidance and steering on select key projects.
Collaborate with Sales to provide SMEs for Sales Support activities.
Participate in Customer discussions and proposal/quote development as appropriate.
Maintain direct relationships with Customer base and secure Customer satisfaction.
Participate in Customer visits with Sales to promote service capabilities and Customer good will.
Develop and establish internal standards, processes, procedures, templates, and tools for the efficient, quality delivery of automation solutions to the Customer.
Collaborate internally with the Systems BU Management, and cross-functionally with Sales, to optimize team performance, identify and execute continuous work process improvement, and ensure open communication between team members.
Stay on top of industry trends, especially with respect to technology, and anticipate / develop team skills to be agile to industry shifts.
Develop and provide business reports to Management and Principals on staffing, business forecast, current activity, and industry trends and opportunities.
Qualifications:

Four-year technical degree required- Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science preferred.
Clear understanding of the techniques of DCS configuration and PLC programming.
Clear understanding of the architecture and technologies of automation and control systems.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

3+ years of direct management experience in a Management / Supervisory role in suitable automation and controls business.
5+ years of direct experience in an operation and service-oriented work environment working directly with industrial control and automation systems, both DCS and PLC, and relevant connected technologies.
Experience of implementing automation solutions and writing software code.
Effective coach with a growth mindset, proven leadership, and motivation skills.
Ability to forge positive working relationships with a wide variety of people.
Able to communicate with Customers at all levels and capable of managing expectations.
Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines independently and as part of a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in use of common computer software programs including the Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
Ability to organize and plan individual and group work tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to wear minimum level of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction which may include, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed shoes.
Must have the ability to perform work with occasional walking and standing.
Must be able to work in an office desk / cubicle environment with extensive computer use.
Must be able to travel to industrial manufacturing facilities and interface with operations, engineering, equipment supply, and construction personnel.
