Senior Engineering Manager
Day in the Life of a Concept & Architecture Leader:Concept Generation & Feasibility:
Leads and oversees systems advanced development activities. This includes working across businesses to identify and prioritize a backlog of system architecture priorities.
Supports the overall CRM/CDS portfolio early concept and ideation work. Works closely with chief engineers and lead systems engineers to identify technical risks and burn down plans.
Coach and mentor engineers and project teams recommending appropriate risk burn down activities.
Evaluates and supports R&T transition readiness for development.
Responsible for long-term governance and maintenance of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) repository for requirements and design information.
Proactively works across programs to ensure consistent interfaces for our end-users (e.g., communication, instrumentation, user interfaces, etc.)
Identifies opportunities for system design and architecture improvements and proactively works to influence and negotiate for funding and resources to support efforts.
Works closely with PMO as the Solution Definition process to ensure rigorous, effective, and scalable execution of the front-end of the development lifecycle.
Responsible for oversight and guidance for all Solution Definition TAC reviews across the portfolio.
Continuous improves the Solution Definition process.
Coach and mentor, the organization to understand intent and navigate the Solution Definition process.
Fosters a culture of idea generation and knowledge sharing.
Drives efforts to encourage and capture intellectual property from the systems engineering organization.
Helps to create an environment for effective knowledge sharing from key experts on the concept and architecture team.
Works closely with the R&T leadership team to understand 10–15-year priorities and align systems engineering activities.
Acts as systems engineering representative on Research Feasibility Systems (RFS) governance board.
Partners with the PMO advanced development leader to integrate systems architecture concepts and ideas into the pipeline for funding.
Effectively leads a team of technical leaders to ensure robust solution definition activities.
Effectively develops, attracts, and retains a pipeline of top engineering talent for system concept and architecture work.
Must Have: Minimum RequirementsBachelors degree required
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience
Nice to Have5+ years of managerial experience
Proven ability to handle and manage multiple activities at once.
Good judgment in assessing risks and opportunities of solutions.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to proactively escalate and resolve issues.
Strategic thinker with ability to implement new ideas.
Good at communicating in a concise but thorough fashion.
Understanding the full systems engineering lifecycle from concept to commercial release.
Experience as a research scientist or lead systems engineer.
Experience with the complete systems engineering lifecycle from requirements through validation and launch.
Experience with CRM/CDS products, therapies, clinical application, and general disease state physiology.
