Medtronic’s Coronary and Renal Denervation (CRDN) business is looking for a motivated engineer to be part of a high-performing team that is revolutionizing the design and development of medical devices.  In this role, you will leverage both your technical breadth and business acumen to accelerate the design and development of next generation medical devices. This engineering position requires strong technical and leadership skills to support the design and development of innovative, new products within the Cardiac and Vascular Group. The Senior Software Engineer will apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts in working on complex technical problems, and will provide technical leadership of projects from concept generation through early phase development to market release.

Work closely with cross-functional partners such as Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Regulatory and Quality, to take a product from ideation to market release.
Designs, develops, tests, debugs, and implements operating systems components, software tools, firmware, and utilities.
Determines systems software design requirements.
Designs and verifies software operation of microprocessor-based systems including graphical user interface applications.
Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
Generates systems software engineering policies, standards, and procedures.
Advanced knowledge of software development tools like integrated development environments (IDEs), repositories, and unit test frameworks
Use software management tools like version control, bug tracking, and code review
Lead documentation of software features, software design, defects, vulnerabilities, and observations
Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
Provide technical input supporting submissions to regulatory bodies and governmental agencies.
May collaborate with people inside and outside of the company, as well as identify suppliers and external partners needed throughout the development process
Support our intellectual property portfolio through generation and support of novel ideas and product concepts
Works independently under limited supervision to determine and develop approach to solutions. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower-level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems, or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation – while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree required (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Equivalent degree)
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have

Experience with product concept development, customer interaction, systems engineering and validation of customer needs/design requirements
Working knowledge of systems engineering principles, requirements management, and medical device regulation
Demonstrated strength in building strong relationships at all levels of the organization, cross-functionally, and with key people external to the organization
Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) or Design, Reliability & Manufacturability (DRM) certification
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, simulate, and resolve issues in embedded system designs and software
Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, C++, C#
Demonstrated proficiency in embedded communications protocols such as SPI, I2C
Demonstrated experience in the following areas: embedded processors, controllers, and development tools such as emulators, logic analyzers, scopes, compilers, stack analysis, static analysis tools, and software version control
Demonstrated proficiency in design tools such as UML
Experience with wireless communication
Experience with signal processing in real time
Experience with cryptography and cybersecurity concepts
Experience developing software within the medical device industry
Experience with medical device design controls (e.g. ISO 13485), risk analysis (e.g. ISO 14971), and IEC62304 and SDLC
Practical knowledge of project management, including Agile Scrum methodologies.
Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication, judgment, decision making, and critical thinking
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively in a team
