Dear National Engineering Resources,
My name is Jeffrey Brooks and I’m a recent graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Mechanical
Engineering. I’m originally from Culpeper, VA and I’m currently searching for a mechanical engineering position in
the surrounding area. I learned of the Mechanical Engineer opportunity in Staunton, VA through Virginia Tech
Career Services.
I’m particularly interested in the Mechanical Engineer position because I have coursework and project
experience that I believe would greatly help me to meet the needs of this position. During my senior year of college,
I worked on an R&D project involving the acquisition of accurate data from road surface features and the
subsequent use of that data in the maintenance of road surfaces and the design of vehicles for the automotive
industry. This project required me to develop plans based on client needs and to design necessary structural
components for a system while prioritizing it for proper functioning in harsh environments including vibration, heat,
acceleration, and aerodynamic loading. Because of the complexity and the necessary accuracy of the system, I
consistently performed FEA/fatigue analyses using AutoDesk Inventor/Multiphysics and modified structural designs
accordingly to achieve a system-level design that would satisfy all client requirements and survive its intended use. I
was also in constant communication with the client, engineering manager, manufacturer, and other team members
about any necessary changes in design and troubleshooting of any problems with interactions between system
components. Separate from this project, I was involved in laboratory and engineering testing coursework where I
analyzed technical setups including airfoil performance, fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in varying
environments, thermodynamic systems, and electrical systems. In addition to physical experimentation, I used CAD
software to virtually simulate most of these technical setups. I’ve also had coursework and experience with
thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics outside of HVAC, power-generation systems, etc. in the fields
of internal combustion engines and Automotive Engineering. Additional information regarding my academic and
professional experience is outlined in my attached resume.
In addition to my academic and professional work, I also have a large amount of experience in working
with clients/customers through many extra-curricular projects that I’ve been involved in and volunteer/employment
positions that I’ve held. I hold unique strengths in working and connecting with clients, ensuring capability of
service, and exhibition of public-relations skills. For these reasons, I’m very interested in both client-based projects
and commercial product projects.
I would enjoy the opportunity to learn more about this Mechanical Engineer position through National
Engineering Resources and to interview for the position. I am available for contact by phone, email, and mail. If any
other information from me is necessary, then I will be glad to provide it. I will attempt to follow-up regarding this
position in one week. Thank you for your time and your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Craig Brooks, EIT
