Ed Experience

Safran Power USA. Twinsburg Ohio.
Design, manufacture DC and AC generators and Generator controls for aerospace.
2011–present Power and Control Electronics Engineer.
n Leading the design of a brushless generator control (600 amps, 28 Volt)for both start mode and generate mode
n The controller starts the generator as a motor. After the engine is started it then switches to controlling the generated output voltage by regulating the generator’s field current (brushless)
Parker Aerospace, Devens Mass.
Design, manufacture fuel systems, and related electronic controls for aerospace.
2009–2011 Motor control specialist consultant.
n LCS (Liquid Coolant System) on the 787 Dreamliner
Control algorithm and power electronics circuit redesign.
n FMU (Fuel Module Unit) on the 787 Dreamliner
Redesign of brushless motor control algorithms on the fuel motor pumps for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The redesign was the feedback architecture for the rotor position due to resolver motor pole mismatch. I also contributed to the controller circuitry simplification to gain reliability and space for design improvements

Curtiss Wright Engineered Systems, Fairfield NJ.
Designs and manufactures motion controls actuators subsystems.
2001–2009 Manager Electric Drive Engineering.
Responsible for the management of the electrical engineering group, the conduction of trade studies in support of proposals. Also responsible for the direction of all electrical engineering efforts that include all electronic, embedded digital controllers and software designs and the technical support of aerospace and ground defense motion control products

n Led the design of the Joint Strike Fighter ordinance 270 VDC electronic hoist motor controller.
n Led the design and development of a dual motor controller for the Integrated Weapons Bay Hoist system on the Boeing J-UCAS plane. This effort led to Curtiss-Wright winning the Joint Strike Fighter hoist.
n Headed design in Switzerland of a multi-axis brushless motor control unit for Future Combat Systems Applications. This effort resulted in a projected actuators sales increase of 15%.
n Led design team of electromechanical actuators for the Multi Role Armament and Ammunition System (MRAAS) for General Dynamics. Effort resulted in Curtiss-Wright showcasing servo design capabilities to other ground defense principals. These efforts led to Curtiss-Wright winning multimillion dollar contracts.
Bobst Group Inc. Roseland NJ.
Designs and manufactures machines for the graphic industry (packaging printing machines).
1991– 2000 Electrical Project Engineer.
Overall project management responsibility for requirements definition, design, and manufacturing of electronic controls for packaging and printing industrial machines used in the graphic art industry.

n Key contributor in lowering base cost for the new “Pacifica” folder gluer machine by more than $150k. This contributed to an increase to over 80% of market share.
n Designed a controller for a high speed foil label sheeter capable of cutting repeatedly within 4 thousands of an inch at speeds up to 800 ft/min.
n Designed of an electronic web sequencer to minimize waste after roll splices on web fed machines running up to speeds of 800 feet/min.
n Designed a Brushless Motor based back folding servomechanism system for folder gluers. This eliminated the need of reversing the boxes while folding, increasing sales for the machine by 10 %.
n Responsible for testing new concepts on the application of register control systems and the design of electronic circuitry with both analog and digital components for these applications.
Education

May 2000 New Jersey Institute of Technology, New Jersey, USA
n Master of Science in Electrical Engineering
* Graduate studies in control systems engineering: A study of systems and systems stability.
* System studies in bioengineering and microprocessor based medical instrumentation design.
1979–1985 Pontificia Catolica “Madre & Maestra” University, Santiago D.R.
n Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
skills and Software proficiency

Control System Design
n Working and theoretical knowledge of classical control and digital control implementation.
n Working and theoretical knowledge of mechanical system dynamics and the motion control of actuators.
n Working and theoretical knowledge of electric motor and electronic motor controller design the operation of DC, AC and brushless DC motors.
Microprocessor System Design
n Working and theoretical knowledge on the design of analog and embedded microprocessors circuits.
n Working knowledge on the design and implementation of digital and FPGA/CPLD’s circuitry
n Experienced in specific hardware requirements for trading off hardware versus software complexity.
Power Electronics
n Working and theoretical knowledge of power electronic architectures utilizing power devices such as MOSFET and IGBT.
