Staff Process Control Engineer, Oil Sands Long Lake Operation
Focused on process stabilization, yield and reliability improvement through process control performance enhancement including re-designing, tuning, and troubleshooting of unstable process control loops, interlock optimization, advanced process control implementation, operating guideline and engineering documents preparation, operator training, and startup support of new capital projects. Worked closely with shift supervisors, operator, maintenance, process/mechanical/rotating engineers.
Accountable for process control works for: atmospheric / vacuum distillation units, solvent de-asphaltene units, 3 thermal crackers, 4 gasifiers, PSA and gas turbines / generators, and SAGD well pads, inlet treating, de-oiling, steam boilers /co-generation, water treatments
Increased Or-Crude production yield 4% through operation data analysis, opportunities identification, field test-runs, and operation guideline development with new target sheets. Implemented control logic changes for vacuum distillation.
Designed new syngas header control schemes to stabilize pressure swings, reducing unexpected trips of SAGD steam boilers 80%. Led task force team addressing challenges and identifying opportunities.
Developed operator guidance tool in DCS with gasifier process model and LIMS integrated DCS graphics. Soot of ash ratio affecting coil run length extension stabilized 51%.
Completed APC feasibility study for crude section and progressed APC implementation through plant tests, model identification, controllers commissioning, followed by operator training.
Tuned, re-designed regulatory controls, rectified faulty instruments with maintenance. Increased portion of process control loops running in auto mode from 54% to 85%, decreasing standard deviation of key process variables 60%.

Designed process control logics compensating varying fuel gas property and controls for master steam header. Led control project team, executing fuel/ air control revision, re-Hazop study, instrumentation sizing review, etc. Project reduced unexpected SAGD boilers trips 63%.
Achieved successful startup of new DRU plant. Performed EPC deliverable feedback, HAZOP, operator training simulator development, DCS FAT testing, alarm rationalization, walk down, and startup tuning.
