UMD Projects
Bike Wheel Light Show Senior Design Project. Worked with two other Electrical Engineer students to design, implement, and create an LED display on a bike wheel controllable by an Android application. Used an Arduino Uno microcontroller to receive commands from an Adafruit Bluefruit LE SPI Friend Bluetooth module to produce an output of choice. Had weekly progress report meetings with professor. Wrote proposal paper with a bill of materials prior to construction phase and a final paper after prototype was completed. Conducted 20 minute presentation open to any faculty and students on design, results, and further improvements. Received an A grading.
The Battle Between Recreational Drones and Laws. Independently wrote a research recommendation report to the Federal Aviation Administration concerning drone laws. Researched using 10 sources including library archives and reliable online sources. Results found privacy and safety issues due to lack of drone laws and exponential increase in popularity.
Fabrication of Optical Negative-Index Metamaterials Presentation. Researched in-depth concepts with teammate on research article, “Fabrication of Optical Negative-Index Metamaterials”. Conducted 30 minute presentation on research results to class.
Three Band Audio Equalizer. Worked with two other Electrical Engineering students to design, implement, and construct a three band audio equalizer to satisfy objectives based on specifications. Used Cadence software to model and design circuit board to verify that appropriate components met requirements. Created and tested sallen key bandpass filters which were separated into three frequency ranges from 20 Hz – 200 Hz, 200 Hz – 2 kHz, and 2 kHz – 20 kHz. Installed potentiometers to allow for variable gain on each frequency range. Results were demonstrated by playing music using input through an iPhone and output through speakers. Received perfect score.
Cochlear Implants Presentation. Researched with teammate on semiconductor portion of cochlear implants focusing on relationship between device and human body. Conducted 30 minute presentation on research results to class.
