Experience
Clemens Food Group Hatfield, PA July 2012- Present
Industrial Engineer
Completed several successful implementations of cost reduction projects that reduced labor, increased yield, and improved efficiencies. Managed more than 25 department’s labor and yield standards and over 1,200 finished products.
Cost Reduction Projects:
• Justified a ham stuffing machine to reduce square footage, reduce labor and material costs – a $75,000 per year savings
• Increased pieces per minute on Fresh Sausage linking machine to increase overall capacity to meet customer demand and to decrease cost of indirect labor – $30,000 per year savings
• Led a cross departmental labor improvement team in Fresh Sausage department: Led meetings, problem solving sessions, managed actions items, assisted with analysis of root causes, and measured performance. Increased labor efficiency from 75% to 90%, which reduced labor variance by over $250,000 in one year.
Functional Support:
• Manage crewing standards for plant by departments and job code
• Report downtime for all departments using access database and SAP BPC
o Use data to identify areas improvement or considerations for capital replacements
• Capital NPV analysis: Supply inputs for labor and material savings. Perform post mortems on completed projects to evaluate realization of savings.
• Capacity analysis for existing production lines and for proposed capital projects
o Identify bottlenecks and recommend areas of improvement to increase capacity
• Safety: Scribe and member of a task force creating programs for compliance: PPE, JSA, Hazcom, and PITS
• OEE: Analyze productions lines feedback from plant monitor to suggest areas for improvement
Standard Maintenance and Review:
• Determine direct and indirect labor standards for costing of products
• Perform time studies to create measurements for labor efficiency for over 15 departments
• Balance production lines to increase efficiency and improve throughput
• Estimate pre-production labor and material standards for new products
The Timken Company- Alloy Steel Canton, Ohio August 2006 – June 2012
Industrial Engineer August 2008 – June 2012
Completed several projects across the steel business that helped to increase product quality, improve process flow, and reduce cost while maintaining safety. Also, developed, evaluated, documented, and advanced manufacturing methods and processes through Lean techniques and Kaizen Events.
Finished Goods Warehouse – Assist team in producing Business Case for 26 million capital project
• Provide finished goods data to understand resources and equipment needed for warehouse
• Design and analyze simulation to understand the bottlenecks and ability of proposed equipment to meet shipping needs at the lowest cost
• Produce a work flow diagram showing visually the current and future state of finished goods movement from finishing areas to shipping. This aided in realizing the complexity of the current state and the reduction of touches and moves for future state.
Finish Line Simulation – Capital project for reducing manpower and cost per ton
• Designed a simulation for a new finishing line to reflect product characteristics and specifications from multiple suppliers
• Worked with fast paced cross functional design team to make changes to simulation when needed and communicated importance of constraints, machine utilization, and problem areas of line
Incentive Plan Administration & Development
• Developed a multi factor gainshare plan for a new finishing line. Factors were chosen to drive productivity while improving quality, adherence to schedule and safety.
• Accurately calculated performance of multiple plans(6) according to written standards
Rolling Mill Single Minute Exchange of Die
• Conducted time studies of multiple rolling mill line changes to analyze variability between crews
• Participated in a Kaizen event to get employee input and suggestions to reduce time and variability of setup changes
Steel Business Associate August 2006 – August 2008
Completed a two year rotational program that included a comprehensive training curriculum with four different positions within the Alloy steel division. Gained experience and networking throughout the company and a complete understanding of the manufacturing of Timken’s products.
Rotation 1: Industrial Engineer – 9 Months
• Created new layout of scrap yard to improve product flow
• Participated in a Kaizen event to decrease time in Mold Handling department
– Performed Time studies and created work instructions to improve sustainability
Rotation 2: Process Improvement – 6 Months
• Led Lean Six Sigma project to reduce orders with yield greater than 100%
– Reduced orders with yield over 100% by approximately 80%
– Improved overall calculation of Yield for plant due to changes in standards and more precise calibration of scales.
Rotation 3: Precision Steel Components – Tryon Peak, NC & Dayton, OH – 5 Months
• Designed layout to consolidate two buildings into one to increase the visibility of production
• Determine size and layout of incoming raw material and finished goods inventory
Rotation 4: Safety Team – 4 Months
• Led a team of three associates to revamp the plants standard work procedures with a focus on safety
• Assisted with 5S movement throughout plant
• Investigate accidents/ Near Misses
Computer Skills
• Microsoft: Word, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio
• Witness-Simulation Software
• JMP- Statistical Analysis
• SAP- Business Planning and Consolidation
• Timer Pro- Time Study
• AutoCAD
