Mechanical Design Engineer I BrightLeaf Power Montrose, CO
February 2013 to June 2015
Responsibilities
-Responsible for maintaining and managing full product Bill of Material in XCEL. The Bill of Materials created would then later be added to the MRP/ERP system. Additional responsibilities included Part Number assignment and management for all components in the Master Part Number Listing. Manufacturer€™s part numbers and equivalents were also managed.
-Designed, prototyped, and created detailed production drawings for many of the components and assemblies within the Brighleaf generator. Design responsibilities included performing material selection, FEA, and cost reduction activities. Experience and use of a 3-D printer for initial prototypes of small components was used for evaluation before production runs. Drawings of components were sent to various manufacturers for quoting and purchasing of prototype runs.
-Managed all Engineering Change Order Process and released all final engineering drawings to production. This includes oversight and updates to all 3D Solidworks models of parts and assemblies for the BrightLeaf generator.
Accomplishments
-Responsible for the design of a mirror alignment fixture. Fixture was a production alignment system for a solar concentration mirror. This fixture can reliably align the center of the mirror within 0.025€ to its target location and is in use for solar module production. The fixture utilized a system of pneumatic cylinders along with pneumatic and electrical switches to activate the cylinders during the alignment process.
Skills Used
Organizational skills were used with the maintenance and updating of the 3D model data base and the associated drawings as this was done without the use of a PDM tool. I also updated and added parts to the master part number listing for all the components used in the BrightLeaf generator system.
Good communication was a must with upper management and the director of engineering. I facilitated weekly engineering change order meetings to review and finalize updated drawings.
